2008 News
April 22nd - At 11:41 AM, volunteers were paged to another fire on Mt. Madonna Road. Volunteers responded with our water tender. Another controlled burn escaped and burned at least two acres of timber.
March 21st - At 7:46 AM, volunteers were paged to a medical emergency on Casa Loma for a back injury. A volunteer responded, and a male with a back injury was stabilized and transported. At 1:31 PM, volunteers and our water tender were called back to Mt. Madonna Road, where the controlled burn had flared up again or was reignited and burned approximately 2.7 acres. Volunteers were released at approximately 8:30 PM. See pictures in Emergencies.
March 20th - At 4:36 PM, volunteers and our water tender were paged to an escaped controlled burn on Mt. Madonna Road. Volunteers responded with our water tender and stayed until released by Command. Volunteers refilled the diesel and water in preparation for the next call.
March 11th - At 2:31 PM, volunteers were paged to a fire report on Loma Chiquita Road. A resident was burning with a burn permit. Please see our burn permit information.
January 27th - At 11:30 PM, volunteers were paged to a possible structure fire on Loma Chiquita Road near Casa Loma. It was a wire down with a tree on fire and not a structure fire. PG&E was called but did not respond until 4:45 AM. Volunteers stayed throughout the emergency.
January 14th - At 11:20 AM, volunteers were called for a possible roof fire on Casa Loma Road, but were called to return when it was discovered that it was steam.
January 4th - At 1:58 PM, volunteers were paged to arcing power lines on Loma Chiquita Road and kept the area clear until it was determined that the lines were dead.
2007 News
December 31st - Yearly pager test.
December 30th - At 5:30 PM, volunteers were paged to smoke at Mt. Umunum and responded, but it turned out to be an isolated patch of dense fog or cloud.
December 30th - At 12:22 PM, volunteers were paged to a traffic collision with injuries on Loma Chiquita near Casa Loma. A male with a broken leg was stabilized and transported.
December 5th - At 6:07 PM, volunteers were paged for medical aid on Casa Loma Road near McKean. Volunteers responded. A female with an ankle injury was stabilized and transported.
October 30th - At 8:22 PM, volunteers were notified of a major seismic event and asked to respond with the status of equipment. Chief 1 Kylee inspected the upper fire house and Chief 2 Steve inspected the lower fire house and reported no damage.
Spring Valley and Spreckles Volunteer Fire Departments each donated a truck to CLVFA! Huge thanks from our community for this generous gift.
The Upper Firehouse has a new roof! Thank you to member donors, the Setzer Foundation and the Loma Prieta Women's Club.
September 9th - Fire Training, usually the first Sunday of the month, is postponed until the 8th due to the Labor Day weekend. This training is at the upper firehouse.
July 1st - CAL FIRE requested our water tender for another fire on Croy Road. Luckily the area had previously burned and it did not escalate.
June - CLVFA responded to four medical emergencies that resulted in three helicopter airlifts by CALSTAR. We encourage all residents to purchase CALSTAR insurance.
March 24th - Someone broke into the lower fire station and stole Engine 41. They then crashed it into the creek near Twin Falls Rd. If anyone has any information please call the Santa Clara Sheriff's office. An anonymous donor sent $10,000 after hearing about this incident. Thank you, whoever you are!
March 21st - A page went out for a structure fire on Twin Falls Rd. A home on Twin Falls Road was destroyed along with many animals and belongings. Our hearts go out to the family. If you would like to help please contact Kylee.
New Years, New Fires - On New Years Eve, Casa Loma was paged to a fire at the Channel 11 towers at around 3:30 P.M. We were released at about 7 P.M. At 1:50 A.M. Casa Loma was again paged back to the same area and were released around 7 A.M. New Years Day. At about 3:30 P.M. New Years Day Casa Loma was again paged for a structure fire on McKean Rd near the beginning of Casa Loma Rd. Two volunteers drove the water tender from the upper station to the scene while two others brought the lower station truck. The engine was put away at 10:30 P.M. that evening.
