FIRE SAFETY

Fire Safety is very important in this mountainous, isolated community. Emergency services may take up to an hour to respond. Please dial 911 for emergencies. CLVFA will be paged to your location.

  • Your address should be easily spotted from the road. Emergency response could be disastrously delayed by trying to figure out where your emergency is.
  • Send your contact and emergency contact information to CLVFA. If a fire breaks out on your property or a medical emergency occurs, we need to contact the homeowners or residents. This information will be held strictly confidential.
  • Residents need to have working fire detectors at all times.
  • Purchase fire extinguishers for household fires.
  • Structures need 100 feet of defensible space. If you do not have 100 feet of defensible space, Cal Fire (formerly CDF) is not responsible for defending your structure and will move to the next defensible space. 100 feet is the law, and you may be fined for non-compliance.
  • We need to maintain a trained volunteer fire department. Please see the training section for information on volunteering. CLVFA needs resources to respond to emergencies. Please donate to CLVFA to ensure you have a properly equipped first responder team.
  • Brush burning is only allowed during authorized burn days and only with a valid permit issued by Cal Fire. Trash burning is never allowed. To find out if it is an authorized brush burning day, call 1-800-792-0787. If it is an authorized brush burning day, you must call Cal Fire (formerly CDF) to notify them of the burn so fire spotters will be aware. Call Cal Fire at 408-779-6611 to inform them of a brush burn.
  • Have an evacuation plan. See the August 2007 newsletter for details.
