Burn Permits
Cal Fire issues burn permits to allow residents to clear defensible space. For information about this program, see the Cal Fire page and the burn permit safety document. Violations of any burning permit terms are a violation of state law, public resources codes 4421, 4422, 4423 and 4425.
Brush burning is only allowed during authorized burn days and only with a valid permit issued by Cal Fire. Trash burning is never allowed. To obtain a permit, call 408-499-4255. A new permit must be obtained each year.
To find out if it is an authorized brush burning day, call 1-800-792-0787 or visit the BAAQMD burn status page. If it is an authorized brush burning day, you must call Cal Fire (formerly CDF) to notify them of the burn so fire spotters will be aware. Call Cal Fire at 408-779-6611 to inform them of a brush burn.
